MY FELLOW MEMBERS OF ST. STEPHEN LUTHERAN CHURCH

This is my monthly message keeping the congregation updated and informed as to the business of your church council.  We met on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 and on a very hot and humid evening all council members were in attendance.  A reminder to all St. Stephen’s members that you have a very dedicated and hard working church council.

Regarding Bill Merring’s efforts to update the membership rolls:  Letters have been sent out and several responses have been received.  Several letters have been returned as either moved or  otherwise unable to deliver.  By our next council meeting in July we should have a more complete report on the responses.

Frank Gianneschi reported that synod inquired as to whether we as a congregation would be willing to consider a candidate that had his own housing and would not need the parsonage.  This would necessitate an increase in the basic compensation.  Frank, Eloise, Kathy Gerling and myself discussed it and responded that all options were on the table and that the candidates qualifications and his or her ability to be a “good fit” for St. Stephen would determine our flexibility.  We are presently awaiting the proposal of another candidate from synod.

Eric Conrad reported that the building committee is still in the process of visiting churches where architects, we are considering, have done renovations. Nothing further to report at this time.

Eloise made copies for all council members of the revised policies and procedures proposed by Jean Mingle and the Ad Hoc committee.  Council members were to review them and come back in July when they will be formally adopted.

Jim Swartz’s Christian Education Committee will be composed of himself, Michele Billich, Barbara Pallister and Michelle Morin.  Vacation Bible School will again be held in August and much help is needed.  Please see Michele Billich if you can help in any way.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.

In closing may I remind you that questions and suggestions are always welcome.  Please feel free to offer them at any time to either myself or any council member.  May God bless you all as we move forward in Christ’s name.

Yours in Christ,

Bill Cochrane

President of the Church Council

Katie’s Quilters

Thank you for your generous donations to Katie’s Quilters.  A total of $330 was raised and will make possible

the purchase of 3 packages of batting.  The quilts will be delivered to Lutheran World Relief in July.

Thank you to the members of Katie’s Quilters who continue to put their talent, love and dedication into the

beautiful quilts that they create to be given to those in need throughout the world.  The quilt display in church last Sunday was lovely.

It showed us all firsthand how the quilts can warm the spirit as well as the body.
